This content source needs to impersonate an NT domain user to access your file system. You might want to create an NT user specifically to assign access to this content source and grant the user access to appropriate areas of your file system.
Important: Users that can create content crawlers or submit documents from this contnet source will be able to import any file that is available to the NT user that this content source impersonates.

To specify the main settings for this content source:
Generally, you can only import links to documents; the documents themselves are left in their original locations (unless you upload a document using the File Upload content source). Under URL Type, specify what happens when users follow these links:
By default, this content source uses the gateway to open documents. When users click a link to an associated document, they are redirected to a URL (generated from the settings in your portal configuration file) that, in turn, displays the document. This allows users to view documents they might not otherwise be able to view, either due to security on the source repository or firewall restrictions. If you want your users to be able to view documents even when they are not connected to your network, you should leave this setting at its default.
If you want instead to direct users to the
network path of the document, choose Does
not use the Gateway to open documents. Be warned, however, that
with this option, even users with access to this content source's documents
will not be able to open the documents if they are not connected to your
network.
Note: If you do not want to use the gateway to serve
documents, but want the speed of serving documents over HTTP, you can
serve these documents from a remote Web server. Select Does
not use the Gateway to open documents, and then, on the Advanced
Settings page, specify the remote Web server that will serve the documents.
If this content source uses the gateway, under Choose Web Service, you see the name of the Web service associated with this content source. To edit this Web service, click its name.
Under Impersonation Settings:
In the NT Domain box, type the name of the domain that includes the user that this content source will impersonate.
In the NT User Name box, type the name of the user to impersonate.
In the Password and Confirm boxes, type the password associated with the specified user.
Note: Impersonation Settings do not display if you are using basic authentication for impersonation.
